The north path of tea-horse trading road -- 6 days

Difficulty: Easy

  • D1, The Group will meet in Lijiang, Yunnan. We will stay in a old style court hotel.

Lijiang is a relaxing town which was built based on the Tea-Horse trading road. The old town is still used by the local people. You can feel the cultural style is different than any other Chinese town. If the flight arrives in Lijiang really early we
will have a warm up cycle to Baisha, where you will have a very nice view of the Mt. Jade Dragon.

  • D2, Lijiang—Zhongdian

We will drive part way to Xiaozhongdian, and cycle 30KM to Zhongdian. We will visit the Gadan Songzanlin Monastery and have lunch in Zhongdian. In the afternoon, we will visit the old town of Zhongdian (which is very similar to Lijiang),and the largest prayer wheel in the world. We will then cycle 20KM to the Lime Stone Bridge and stay in a nice local hotel with hot springs pool.

  • D3, Zhongdian—Sanba

This will be a tough day with a 80KM cycle and 4 mountain passes on the way, but very beautiful view on every

pass. In May we could see lots of kinds of rhododendron. Along this 80KM, we could see three kinds of ethnic groups: Tibet, Yi and Naxi. They have different architecture style, different styles of clothing and life style. But they were all very important in the history of Tea-Horse trading

  • D4, Sanba—Walnut grove

Today, we will have two short continuous mountain passes to conquer. After that we will have a very long down hill road all the way to Daju, which is a small town built on the Yangtze riverside terrace. Finally, we will drive 10KM to walnut grove. We will start trekking, down to the most grand section of the Tiger Leaping Gorge.

  • D5, Walnut grove—Qiaotou—Lijiang

We will cycle through the Tiger Leaping Gorge, and drive to the First Bend of Yangtze. We will keep on cycling to Lijiang. We will attend the Naixi Ancient Musical Performance in the evening.
